CHERASCO

The comunal tower - La torre comunale

Established in 1243 by the Marquis Manfredi Lancia, that same year he ordered the building.
Cherasco had, over the years, significant strategic importance in the area. Many peace treaties were signed here (hence the motto "Urbs firmissima Pacis"), and many treaties, including, most importantly, to Cherasco precisely when Napoleon Bonaparte entered the city April 27, 1796 sanctioning the terms of unconditional victory against the Austrians.
The city is prepared according to the "castrum romanum" or a square plan with 2 large districts that intersect at right angles thus generating 4 districts which are: San Pietro, San Martin, San Gregorio, San Iffredo. The remaining streets instead, divide, always in position perpendicular to the neighborhoods in regular islands of about 80 meters each side.
But we come to examine, in this first part, his many and important monuments.

THE TOWN HALL - IL PALAZZO COMUNALE

Comunal Palace - Il palazzo comunale

Has its origin from the unification of two medieval buildings, one reserved for the administration, the other to the mayor. The arches of the mullioned window, located on the main floor, testify to the age of the fourteenth century.
The facade is linear and the main entrance is decorated by fine carvings.
At the center of the palace, at the top, we find the coat of arms of the city with 2 allegories of tiumi Tanaro and Stura. A side of the building shows the imposing tower.
At the center of the palace appears counsel room which boasts a coffered ceiling paintings seventeenth century, with mottoes exciting history of the city.
The many renovations that have occurred over the years have fortunately brought to light interventions, carried most likely by the French, about the stratification of the plaster.

POLLENTIA - POLLENZO, HIS MONUMENTS AND THE UNIVERSITY OF GASTRONOMIC SCIENCES - Pollenzo, i suoi monumenti e l'Università di Scienze Gastronomiche

The current village of Bra, Pollenzo, built on the ruins of the old Roman settlement of "Pollentia", and a subsequent late medieval age (V / VI Century AD :)
The Romans founded the city to which they gave a name well-wishing in the territory of "ligures Bagienni" population belonging to the group Celtic-Ligurian, probably the last decades of the second century.
Scielsero a flat area around the river Tanaro, already at that time navigable and important director of river trade to the Po Valley.
The city was settled in the North / East South / West. The outer fortification had no walls but a traditional "vallum" or a fence of wooden poles with gates and towers in masonry.
Currently it is the seat of the 'University of Gastronomic Sciences and is headquartered within the' "Agency".

THE CHURCH OF SAINT VICTOR - LA CHIESA DI SAN VITTORE

The church, designed by the Arch. Melano on the forum, with the aim to satisfy the romantic ideals of Carlo Alberto, is a "sample" of the architectural solution, "the Gothic", especially the bell tower.
To Melano is attributable to the pictorial decoration resuming stylistic elements of the Gothic "flamboyant".
The construction, started in mid-1843, he was entrusted to Barbero as regards the outer part, while, as regards the interior stucco, to Marielloni.
The painter Paul Fea, decorated the inner aisles, the priest and the tripartite apse fresco.
Less than a month later, the sculptor Gaggini undertook to execute the marble altars, "the twenty-six statues stucco dressed" depicting consisting of prophets and sibyls.
The buttresses of the facades are adorned with statues of the "blessed" Amedeo IX and Umberto II, but also of Santa and Santa Clotilde Adelaide
